Cunard Cruise Line
The Most Famous Ocean Liners In The World!
The Cunard Cruise Line evokes the nostalgia of glamorous transatlantic crossings, the most famous luxury cruise ships of their time: Queen Elizabeth and the new ships Queen Mary 2, and Queen Victoria. Cunard Cruise Line founded in 1840 by Samuel Cunard, the company's slow decline began in the 1960's until Cunard wound up with a fleet of elderly, dissimilar vessels by the 90's. Of course the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), was still famous, but she was aging.
In 1998, however, Cunard was purchased by the wealthy Carnival Corporation, and made a part of its Seabourn Cruise Line division. Seabourn breathed life back into Cunard by scheduling much needed face lifts to some ships and selling off others. In 2004 Carnival Corporation ended the merger with Seabourn and combined Cunard's operations with those of Princess Cruises in North America and with Carnival's other British cruise lines in Europe.
Those who think that Titanic was the last truly glamorous transatlantic vessel are in for a surprise: Cunard has built a new flagship, the Queen Mary 2, which was christened by Queen Elizabeth 2 and entered service in January 2004. Built at a cost of $800 million, she is the most expensive vessel ever constructed, and at 150,000 tons, certainly the largest luxury liner ever to cross the oceans. At 1,132 feet long she is also the longest passenger ship ever built. Despite her size, QM 2 carries only 2,620 passengers and a crew of 1,300. Cunard has delivered on its promise of luxury, including large accommodations (194 - 5,000 square feet), with some 75% of all outside staterooms boasting private balconies.
The decor is everyone's fantasy of a great liner -- sweeping staircases, domed public rooms, a grand ballroom, the largest at sea, the first planetarium at sea, lots of Cunard memorabilia, five indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a full 360-degree Promenade Deck. There are many elegant bars and showrooms, a two-story theatre, a casino, boutiques, the only Canyon Ranch SpaClub at sea, a pet kennel, and a children's facility, complete with British nannies. Restaurants include 10 dining venues, including the only shipboard restaurant by celebrity chef Todd English. Can you miss experiencing this ship?
Parent company Carnival Corporation has also ordered a new vessel to be named Queen Victoria to join the Cunard fleet in summer, 2007. The 90,000-ton, 2,000-passenger vessel will be built by Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani SpA, at its Marghera (Italy) shipyard. The ship will feature a Queens Grill and Princess Grill, a two-story Aquitania Restaurant, as well as alternative dining options, including a Todd English restaurant. Other Cunard hallmark facilities will include a grand ballroom, an authentic British pub, and a classic library. (This ship replaces the previously announced Queen Victoria which was to have joined Cunard in 2005. That vessel will now go to the P&O Cruises fleet.)
During April through December crossings between New York and Southampton, England, QM 2's passengers range from students, families and couples to very wealthy Americans and Europeans. During QE2's annual world cruise, cruisers are aged 65+. For those looking for a luxury family cruise Cunard Line offers children's Programs: QE2 and QM2 boast a full nursery with British nannies, children's activities with counselors and baby sitting services.
The Cunard Queen Mary II brings popularity to luxury cruising and Cunard Line!
Cunard's Queen Mary 2, which was estimated to cost $800 million to build. The mega-ship features an onboard planetarium, Canyon Ranch's first spa at sea, as well as a Todd English restaurant and a playing field.
Cunard, which is owned by Miami-based cruise giant Carnival Corporation, isn't the only cruise ship company adding luxury features and expanding its amenities. Celebrate the Glorious Era that Captured the World's Imagination. There was a time when crossing the ocean on a stately Cunard Line ship was the embodiment of the good life. Dashing British officers, charming waiters, solicitous deck stewards and discreet cabin attendants created a privileged realm of relaxation and indulgence. The elegant traditions of Cunard White Star Service became famous. Today, you are invited to discover the perfection of these cherished traditions that you will find on Cunard Cruises. A Cunard Line ship is a true experience in luxury cruising. Whether circling the globe or enjoying the unique pleasures of a legendary transatlantic crossing, a Cunard cruise is the way to experience ultimate luxury.
Cunard Cruise Line proudly continues the tradition of luxury cruising that began in 1840, Queen Mary 2 debuted in 2004 as the new flagship of the most famous ocean liners in the World. As the tallest, longest, largest, and most expensive cruise ship ever built, the QM2 ship provides her guests with unprecedented amenities and accommodations at every turn. Maintaining the tradition of her Cunard and White Star Line predecessors, QM2 is the only ship offering regularly scheduled transatlantic service. Queen Elizabeth 2 continues to set the standard of British elegance with superb White Star Service and gourmet cuisine. Sailing a definitive World Cruise and round-trip Southampton voyages, QE2 endures as one of the greatest liners of her time. The QE 2 was built with 122 single cabins, where the new QM2 has none, making the QE2 popular for those looking for luxury single's cruises. Queen Victoria joins the fleet in 2007. Cunard Line is a proud member of the Carnival Corporation, which also includes Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Costa Cruises, Windstar Cruises, and the Yachts of Seabourn. These lines appeal to a wide range of lifestyles and budgets, but share a passion to please each guest, and a commitment to quality and value. Cunard caters to sophisticated, well-seasoned travelers who enjoy the finer things in life. The classic liners attract guests who want to reclaim the legacy of luxury cruising without sacrificing modern luxuries. From enticing culinary creations to lavish treatments in the spa, Cunard Cruise Line guests are accustomed to the best of the best.
Plenty of people will pay for that sort of convenience--and pay handsomely. The world's most expensive cruise, and also one of the longest, is the 121 night around-the-world cruise in a grand suite on the Queen Elizabeth 2 that costs 270,099 ($481,191). If you still want to travel in style, but on a shorter trip, try the six-night transatlantic journey from New York to Southampton on the Queen Mary 2, which costs 21,479 ($38,258). That price doesn't include a plane ticket back to the U.S., which will seem like pennies compared to the sticker price of the cruise.
Technically, the list would include only around the world cruises--the longer the duration, the pricier the ticket--but we decided to break the categories down into more manageable time periods, as well as by cruise type. To pick the most expensive cruise in each category, we looked at the priciest room available on journeys offered by the major cruise lines. All prices are quoted per person, unless otherwise noted, and reflect the ship's rack-rate prices. However, just as with the priciest rooms in a hotel, few people every pay the full rack rate.
Cunard Line to introduce the Queen Victoria, their newest luxury cruise ship!
The Queen Victoria is to be dedicated to the British cruise market! The Queen Victoria will be the second largest Cunard luxury liner ever built carrying 1,968 passengers. Together with the current flagship, Queen Elizabeth 2, and Queen Mary 2, the largest passenger ship ever, the Cunard fleet will include three Queens for the first time. These 3 will be the most famous ocean liners in the world.
The Queen Victoria is currently being built at Italy's Fincantieri shipyard, and will enter service in the company's 165th anniversary operating round-trip Southampton cruises to the Mediterranean, Canaries, Northern Europe as well as cruises to the Caribbean. This luxury cruising vessel will feature a covered wrap-around promenade deck, a forward-facing observation lounge, and a large Lido pool with a retractable magrodome. New innovative exterior elevators with glass walls will uniquely tower 10 decks high on both sides of the vessel. Like QE2 and QM2, this luxury cruise liner will have a Queens Grill offering single-seating gourmet dining.
The on-board menus, entertainment and lecture programming will be geared toward British tastes and the currency will be sterling. Queen Victoria will have an undeniably British feel with two British design teams being responsible for her interiors. Queen Victoria will offer a wide range of accommodations including large standard oceanview staterooms (170 sq ft) and a high percentage of balcony cabins (67%). This brings new levels of luxury and choice to the British passengers.
Cunard expects Queen Victoria to have world-wide appeal, especially in the American market. Cunard guests value the superior White Star Services and amenities the line has always offered. Queen Victoria will be a luxury cruise ship that is both modern and sophisticated. This will extend the Cunard line into the 21st century, and provide a full complement of luxury comforts for the luxury cruisers with high expectations.
